July 2002 - CBCT Briefing 2
Caterham Pumas, the resident football team on the field behind the Fox, are starting work to improve the facility for the young people it serves.
With CBCT they are submitting a temporary planning application to Croydon Council for a changing room and clubhouse. They are asking for a five year temporary use in order to prove the viability of the club before seeking anything more permanent.
They propose to locate the building set back in the area of scrub at the end of the existing roadway leading into the Grove. They are NOT being permitted to use that entrance as the main entrance to the field.
Temporary Clubhouse Building
The Pumas have agreed to restrict the use of the Grove to the managers playing at home and have the teams park in the Croydon Car Park on the other side of the field. Discussions are continuing with the Parks & Leisure Department responsible for the Croydon Car Park.
Because no more than six teams will play on a Saturday or Sunday and the Pumas have agreed to not allow more than 1.5 cars per team for the managers, (they have agreed to car sharing), there will be no more than 9 cars driving down the Grove on a playing day. It is the standard they have operated this season and, as far as the Trust is aware, has not caused problems but if you know better please let us know.
There will be two buildings placed one behind the other and set back to the tree line so that only the front will be visible. The buildings are 30ft by 10ft and will be fitted out with temporary changing facilities and chemical toilets so that no substantial work such as drainage needs to be done until the longer term viability of the club is established.
In the time of the Guards the field was known as the Joliffe Field but the Pumas would like to rename it. If you have any historical or other suggestions please contact us.
